What is it about a matchbox?

and how it turned into a mixed media piece of art

I’ve long loved a matchbox. Not the traditional kind that you can find at the grocery store - but the kind you generally find at restaurants. Maybe it is because they are small but usually it is the way each small box is designed.

I started collecting them - much to my husband’s dismay. Close friends know and will actually bring me cool ones they find here and there, but after years of collecting I started thinking, “what do I do with these?”

I got an idea - create a piece of mixed media art. Something I could hang on my wall - featuring match boxes from restaurants that mean something to me. I shared it on social media and was surprised at how many folks were into it as well.

I now offer commissions - so you can create your own unique piece - and I also have a few small pieces available for sale on the website.
